he didnt bring anything new to rap imo .

all he did is copied people before hims ideas

i still standy by my opinion that he wouldnt be as famous if he was still alive.

people would be sick of him by now his head was so far up his own ****

the afrika bambattas ,grandmaster flashes, public enemys and NWAa etc are the real legends of hiphop

i still think its outrageous you just compared him to MLK and jesus LMAO
 
Comparing Tupac to Jesus is ridiculous. Just because his work outlived him. Picassos work outlived him too.

Why was Tupac a prophet? cos he had forseen his own death? I probably would have too if I acted like he did when he was alive. Ever heard the saying "Live by the sword, die by the sword"?
 
I'd content that while Tupac wasn't the most lyrically agile of rappers, he excelled in one area particularly. That was to bring real issues from the streets and give them an audience. He did a lot to highlight key issues; drugs abuse, aids, young women falling pregnant, black on black violence, sub-standard housing, predjudice in the workplace and society, a general lack of opportunities etc.

His raps were works of art, because he was able to piece together a strong message with apt and powerful samples.

My vote for the most lyrically agile rapper would have to be Eminem. His work has none of the majesty or grace of Tupac's, but the way he bounces from one sentance to the next is breathtaking.

They were/are both geniuses within their respective fields.
 
If Pac was alive and still with Death Row, he would be beefing with Fiddy, Em, Game, Jay Z, Nas, Mobb Deep.

He would probably have been in loads more movies.

Fiddy's status is only because of Pac's demise and disappearance from the rap game.

Jay Z's prominent status also only came about when Biggie had gone too. If Biggie was still alive then Jay Z would have continued to live in his shadow ( no pun intended), OR there would have been a beef developed between the two.

My vote goes to High Priest, Beans and M. Sayyid - probably the only rappers I've ever heard who have had a complete and thorough understanding of flow, time signatures, musical movement and how to move within them. Listen to them; they show Eminem up for what he really is; a stumbling, fast-spitting, poor-rhyming peon.

Got the lyrics off the net but I think sayyid actually says "after the tv's have shut off" - due to the national anthem coming on after the station shuts down.. But anyways, great act.. I've had the fortune to see them, and seen beans a few times since.

As for tupocalypse.. I heard he was a battymanz who danced/trained as a ballerina? - not very gyansta really?.

If we're talking about tallented emcees my money's on Mr.Lif at the mo.

What aspect of my post is it you disagree with specifically? The part about the issues he highlighted, or the part where I stated he was gifted in the way he blended his message into a polished product?

As for the Eminem statement, I have never listened to the three artists you mentioned so I shall do you the courtesey of grabbing some of their tracks so I can make my mind up. Are there any you'd recommend?

Please go listen to it and you can feel the rage coming out right at you through the speakers. It might sound dated now but as at when it came out it wasnt.

Don't get me wrong, I think there's 2-3 tupac tunes that I don't mind (I get around, changes and I aint mad acha), but the reason that I don't mind them is because they're funny. He makes a joke of the whole rap/gangster thing. He was a softcore partyboy, dude had some talent for rhyming, but no content. His life was a lie, and he was no thug.

As for anti pop (beans, high priest, m sayyid) try (album wise):
Ends Against The Middle or Arrhythmia.
Or if you want to go straight in for the kill i'd get (song wise): Rinseflow, bubblz, ping pong, ghostlaws, Z-st, focused. And so on... High Priests production is STAKKA BO.

I have never seen so much rubbish crammed into one paragraph before. How dare you label or think that he had no content, he was a liar and no thug? Seriously, do you know who Tupac is or do you know what content, rhyme,reason and a bomb arse beat is when you hear one? Please come back and give me your reasons why and watch me rip them apart- I aint no Tupacologist but post like yours makes me wanna preach tupac all day.

Go and read about him, watch documentary about his life etc. I mean if someone like KRS one can give his stamp of approval and call him a Legend, prophet, poet, thug, philantrophist.......who the heck (allowed?) are you, penski or any of tupac haters in here to even say otherwise?....Oh perhaps KRSone is fake too innit? :)

Bull droppings! If anything quite the contrary. He was that good he wouldnt need the type of marketing/pr someone like eminem needs simple. I guess people like Ice T, krs1, dr dre, outlaws, etc most be talking non-sense too? His album - all eye on me, is like listening to a preacher in a mordern church - captivating the audience. How many album from any artist (hiphop-wise) can you listen to over and over without wanting to skip?

If he brought nothing new to the game, why so many wanna emulate him - even your white boy mc (eminem) admited he is one of the greatest AND he learned from him. Why aint anyone filling the space he left behind? Ja rule tried but he fail...i mean where is ja today...anyway maybe because no one can replace a legend?.....

You're ignoring the facts - He was VERY well publicised and marketed. He would never have sold so many records if this were not the case.

An MTV poll rated Greenday's 'American Idiot' as the greatest rock record ever. MTV means sweet **** all. That poll basically means that, amongst MTV viewers (themselves the detritus of music afficionados), Tupac was the most popular.
