My new Z270 board has got a Turbo U.2 connector and i am unclear about it and assume that suitable storage drives connect to this port so perhaps someone could clarify this for me please.

Thank You.

U.2 was released around the same time as m.2. Its a different interface to m.2 and was mainly used with Intel PCIE SSDs.

M.2 has been more popular with manufacturers opting for it, typically m.2 is faster. You can get u.2 to m.2 converters.
I believe the turbo facility is th ability to run two drives in RAID, essentially doubling the drive speeds.

Is it an MSI board? See https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/TURBO-U.2-HOST-CARD.html#hero-overview

U.2 is the successor to SATA, M.2 is the successor to MSATA.

The speed should be the same but M.2 does run hotter and some drives have slowdown issues when they get hot. M.2 is seeing more popularity because most users these days don't use multiple drives anymore.
