Just a bit of a probing tread, to see if anyone has any expiriences with OCing a turion in a desktop board.

reason being i've gotta few bit winging there way to me at the moment including a Turion ML-30, an Asrock K8SLI-esata2 & a XFX 7600GT XXX

Can't really find out too much info on the whole subject, apart from the fact that the Turion "should" work in the board i just bought, so i'm taking a bit of a gamble!

Any info/tips would be greatfully appriciated, plus i'll keep you all updated once all the boxes arrive :)

one person i can remember who used a turion in a desktop board was Minstadave, probably worth emailing him if he doesnt see this thread.

Cheers, seems as thought this Turion64 on desktop boards is a bit pioneering :)

It's gonna be good fun :D

me sees emlyn_dewar in this thread :D

they work just like a64's once there in, i would have gone for a bit more established motherboard though :)

In for a penny, in for a pound... i tought

Turion64 in a ULI M1697 chipset SLI mobo! Its no fun if its easy :)

I'm currently in the process of selling mine, I dunno if I can go through with it though... Might have to keep the board and Turion for circumstances such as "just incase..." :D

I have an MT-34 (1.8ghz/1mb) It defaults at 1.2v so I could run it passive off my Vapochill Micro, I did that for a while just because it was so damn loud.
My shoddy overclocking attempts never got very far though, had it at 2.4ghz @ 1.4v, could probably have lowered the volts a notch but I grew tired of checking for stability... (I'm a disgrace)
It didn't seem to like going above 2.4ghz in bios though as it would constantly refuse to boot, wasn't the board as it's stable over 300HTT. I lumped it up to 2.5 using clockgen but it's a crude method and was unstable after an hour or 2. :(

I was using the ep8npa-sli board which is awesome, although I just didn't put in the effort with the overclocking. Maybe hit the brick wall at 2.4 or could go more, I was too scared to up the volts more than 1.5...

I got my ML-30 upto 2.12GHz ok, starts to go a bit flakey then!

but i havnt really tweeked it too much, as i'm chomping at the bit to get the water cooling gear in :)

it's sitting here on my desk at work, i need to go home.... :D

Hehehe, I was just looking around at Turion's aswell for a possible cheap fun desktop rig. Not set on anything yet and found no results really.

How does your Turion perform @ 2.12GHz? Super PI 1mb? 1.6GHz stock speed seems to be ok but you can have a ML-32 @ 1.8GHz stock for a little less than the ML-30.

Thinking of getting one for a folding rig. Want something that aint gunner be putting out too much heat and using not much electricity...

Also, would a Sempron Mobile (25w) skt 754 would good enough in a DFI NF3 250?

I'm here :)

Yup I had a Turion ML-30 in an awful Gigabyte board upto 2.7Ghz no problems on the stock cooler :D

Going to pick it up the week after next and get it on water in my DFI 250GB, hoping for 2.9-3Ghz with it.

The chips are great, they run cool, fast and have all the extras (SSE3).

Here's a quick screenie I found, a modest 1Ghz overclock  :

Machine is in bit at the mo as i'm in the process of fitting a new PSU & water cooling kit :D

Once it's back up and running ill post some info.

I can run at 2GHz (250 x 8) at 1.2v stable, nice and cool

the ML-30 has the 1MB cache, but the ML-32 have 512KB and 200MHz extra clock. I missed out on a MT-37 on ebay the other day

Funilly enough i've got a Sempron Mobile 2600+ sitting on my desk at home, only cost me £15 :)

Hi all.

Quick question, What chip uses less power, the turion ML-30 (i take it that runs at 1.6GHz at stock?) or the sempron mobile 2600?

Also, on my mates laptop, he has a turion ML-30. In CPU-Z, its clock speed changes from 800 to 1600 MHz depending on CPU usage. Is this the bios that is doing that, or is there a piece of software that can do that (change the multiplyer on the fly) ?

Cheers, Woody

Whats the performance like @ 2GHz? Got any super Pi 1m scores you can share @ 2GHz?

Didnt know the ML-32 had 512kb but an extra 200mhz.

What specs does a MT-37 have? ML you mean? (2000MHz stock and 1mb)
