Turn based RPG Type Game?

I never got on with it, the leveling system seemed odd to me. The more stuff you kill the worst of you were? Most guides for it say try to avoid fights and only grind in certain areas. Makes no sense to me

I didn't like it at first, but after awhile I got in to it. That was the weird thing, you had to grind skills without levelling in order to stand a chance, as they both levelled differently.

Well, I enjoyed it anyway, was tough at times and did make me rage a bit at bosses; So, I had to go grind and then come back to kill them.

Battle for Wesnoth; its free and can be quite challenging.

The demo of The Last Remnant is terrible, the game itself is brilliant once understood which can take some time though checking the wikipage for it tends to help a lot.Only downside was the game takes 4 hours or so to start getting good and some of the battles later are hugely challenging.(but i liked that, some people may get frustrated though )
