Ever since I built my latest machine, I've always thought the power on process was a bit odd.

Press the on button...
PC comes on for about 1 second...
then turns off for about 2 seconds...
the comes on and boots up fully....

Why?

I get this with my IP35. Apparently it's a problem with the P35 chipset and a bios update will fix it. Don't know if it applies to the P45 though :/

I get this with my asus p5q deluxe motherboard if the system has been powered off at the wall socket

It's a self-test feature common on enthusiast motherboards. It has a shot at booting, checks everything's OK and then boots proper.

It's completely normal.

It does this to do some checks before loading back into the BIOS and into windows. Really useful when you are overclocking, as it will revert back to default if it doesnt post, without you having to do anything. :)

I suspected it was normal... Thanks for letting me know what it's upto!

abit Ip-35 I lived with this for 3 years.... A bios update fixed it on that model but i couldnt be bothered... Kinda got used to it :)

I get this with both of my Gigabyte X58 UD5's, though it only happens if the power is turned off at the socket for a while, I always turn sockets off at the wall before bedtime..

I have just gotten used to it tbh... if I leave the socket turned on it doesn't happen, god knows what causes this.

Heh I remember starting up a thread with exactly the same question (and funnily enough same mobo), seen a couple more appear since then. Enthusiast board feature etc.
