Well, this is starting to become quite annoying.

After my job i got back in March fell through afer a week, i've since been looking closer to home for a job. (Previous one being in London)

But besides the odd bit of temp work here or there, i haven't had any luck with securing a permanent job. :(

Doesn't help that there are no media or film/tv/music based jobs in my area either, so im forced to apply to a lot of financial/IT jobs which i have zero interest in. I'm in a rut and it hurts

The interviews i have been for in the last few months have all turned me down despite glowing feedback, they either chose someone internally or had someone who was more suited to the role. Which tbh, is fair enough, as im not really qualified for banks, or IT sales...

Any idea's?

Sorry for the rant, feel a little better for getting it off my chest, but still feel directionless :o

I am in the same boat mate I have been turned down for about 6 jobs now despite excellent feedback, it’s really got me down this few months, I turn 28 next week and I have no idea where my life is going!

Sorry I can’t offer an advice!

Well, at least im not alone then!

I feel for you mate, it really sucks :(

I think the fact there are no suitable jobs in your area can only mean one thing: relocate.

Can't mate. I literally have no money, im living with my parents at the moment.

To get what i want, i'd need to move to london and have a few months rent till i got something most probably!

Even the temp work has been drying up since students are back, i can't stand being on the dole, so haven't signed on either, which is probably really daft.

I can't get a job in the field that I want at the place I want either, because I don't have enough research experience :(.

Just keep plugging away :).

Afraid so. Not a right lot you can do about it though. Volunteer, or take a crappy job at the very least to show you're willing to slum it whilst looking for that "right" job.

With respect, don't sign on! There are always jobs around..Retail, McDonalds etc. It all depends on how desperate you are. Agree with platypus, looks a lot better than JSA.

I've applied for places like HMV, Virgin(Zavvi), lots of retail, as i have experience in these places from summer jobs. But no luck so far, i think im cursed!

Bad luck on the knock back. Not sure exactly what you're looking for but here's some pointers from my past experience. Had you thought about freelancing in special effects? If you can make stuff then there's loads of places in West London out to Hayes. That way you get your foot into film and tv. You might also consider doing some voluntary work for the likes of the BBC being a runner to get some contacts. If you're any good at either of those you'll have no problem finding freelance work because the work will come to you.

Thanks guys, i appreciate all the good wishes!

I see what people mean when they say you have to be in the right place at the right time.

Give me my lucky break! :)

To Jonny69: Yeah i've been looking to get into the BBC actually, being a runner is most definitely a good foot in the door, but sadly, i've heard nothing back from them. I'm not too skilled on the special effects front im afraid, im more of a project manager type!

I can imagine every man and his dog sends their cv to the BBC, that's the problem with that one. Do you have any industry contacts? Worth tapping those up and see what comes of it, they might be able to put your name cv around?

Got diddly squat im afraid. I don't know anyone besides IT sales people, retail et al.

I'm painting a tragic figure here!

I'm in a similar position anyway. All my experience, qualifications etc are in IT.. but i'm having a nightmare getting my first step onto the ladder - so I know what it feels like.

A bit like you i'm reluctant to take on a job that doesn't give me a future, but eventually we all have to bite the bullet (when the money runs out?).
