The OP was not being a smartarse. I've done what he did myself sometimes. It's a common trick to get you to agree to everything they say. If they do the "..,yeah?" thing, they want you to automatically acquiesce to their "statement".
I find that saying, "Is that a question or a statement?" after every instance of it soon improves their grasp of English.
After a few of these, I pulled a Jack Bauer in courtroom in s7ep1, and simply replied "I'm sorry, I didn't hear a question." The other manager scribing the conversation smirked
It's only 'lazy' because people (apparently you included) put no effort into trying to do thing properly.
There is absolutely no reason not to bother with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. Without it meaning becomes ambiguous or even impossible to determine.
I'm not saying that I'm always perfect in this, just that I try to get this correct so that what I say is understandable. This is also why I refrain from using 'txt spk' in written communication, including text messages. I'd rather reword a sentence than use poor abbreviations to reduce its length.
I can't say that I have noticed the usage of 'yeah' at the end of utterances too much, but I think it would annoy me.
TBH, the comment isn't as suicidal as you all think.
If he's good at his job, no manager worth his socks will fire him over this.
If you do get fired for this, which I take is against the companies policies, but allowed by law (assuming you're a regular full time employee), then you win. Take the pay off and find a job where you're appreciated, yeah?
