I’ve got about £700 sitting in my gift card balance and nothing to spend it on, I’d rather just have it in cash than use it at Amazon.

So I’m thinking if I buy something from Amazon then flog it on gumtree or whatever and get majority of it back that will be better that just sitting on this forever in the hope something I’m actually arsed about buying turns up on Amazon.

My question is what to buy that will retain close to its original value second hand (will still be fully sealed etc). I was thinking maybe a meta quest 3 or something along those lines.

Or perhaps someone else has a better idea for magically turning a gift card balance into actual money that can be used elsewhere ?

Hard to believe you can't find anything on Amazon that you buy regularly elsewhere that you could order they sell all sorts for cheap prices these days even if it is loo roll and dishwasher tabs! Anyway if you must get it turned into cash ask your friends/family if they are making any large purchases (it's Christmas loads of people will be) via amazon and then agree to make the purchase for them in exchange for cold hard cash they way you shouldn't loose out on anything.

I thought the actual name was banned ? That’s why I wrote rainforest lol
But then you used Amazon three times in the body of the post

This is the answer really :)

Why not buy things like toiletries/cleaning products that you'd normally end up buying at the supermarket. Can normally even get a better deal.

Depends on where it came from, but the last time I asked them to return my Gift Card balance to my bank, they did.

I suspect the best way would be to buy gift cards and sell them on eBay. You lose 10% but that's not bad.

You may not be able to buy other gift cards with a gift balance as it may be classed as money laundering..

In terms of retaining value then Apple products are your best bet - or find out whatever the scalpers are focussing on and try and buy that..

Maybe check the online exchange store for what they will buy closest to the RRP - you'll probably lose a bit more value, but at least don't have the risk of scammers claiming you ripped them off and getting refunds

For simple reason that most of next year is going to be spent moving between countries a lot due to work. i just want as much money in my bank account as possible before I go tbh

Last I checked, Amazon also operate outside the UK .

IIRC Amazon balances last for 10 years? I'm sure you'll be able to buy consumed products in whichever country you move between.
