Turning an Amazon gift card balance into real money

I’ve got about £700 sitting in my gift card balance and nothing to spend it on, I’d rather just have it in cash than use it at Amazon.

So I’m thinking if I buy something from Amazon then flog it on gumtree or whatever and get majority of it back that will be better that just sitting on this forever in the hope something I’m actually arsed about buying turns up on Amazon.

My question is what to buy that will retain close to its original value second hand (will still be fully sealed etc). I was thinking maybe a meta quest 3 or something along those lines.

Or perhaps someone else has a better idea for magically turning a gift card balance into actual money that can be used elsewhere ?
Buy cheap lego.

Like just buy 700 pounds worth of a 40 percent discount. Probably make some profit.

Get the exclusive sets if you can. Like where only amazon + lego sell it.

It'll hold its value at worst

I've had same issue and it's what I do

This is the correct answer!

Can you buy an Amazon voucher using your gift card balance?

Last I checked, Amazon also operate outside the UK .

IIRC Amazon balances last for 10 years? I'm sure you'll be able to buy consumed products in whichever country you move between.

No. Actually, you cannot use Amazon gift cards generated in one country in another one which has a different currency. For example, a gift card bought on Amazon UK (in sterling) cannot be used to buy something on Amazon USA by someone in the USA (where everything is for sale in US dollars).

Dave? lol

Sorry, one of my colleagues just took redundancy and I suggested that he exchanged all the “good boy” points he collected over the years of service into Amazon gift cards before he lost them at the point of leaving.

Surely there’s enough stuff in Amazon that you may need to help you with your travels? Thou I think I’ve almost completed Amazon myself.. lol

iPad/laptop to journal your travels, watch films, listen to music, video call home..

Backup mobile phone, like iPad/laptop but smaller

Kindle for books to read

Music player, NR headphones for audio books, music

Handheld games console..

Travel guide books for the countries that you are going to..

Suite cases, back pack, packing cubes (highly recommend)

Clothing… walking boots/shoes, hoodie.

Secondary watch.. recommendation is a g shock 5600 with world timer don’t want to rely on a smart watch.. useful just to tell the time at home when aboard..

Multitool, to fix stuff when aboard.. only if you are travelling with a suitcase, it’s likely to be taken from you if it’s in hand luggage.

Ear plugs/eye mask/travel cushion…

Or how’s about stuff to protect your home while you are away… blink/ring security cameras

Smart plugs, bulbs to let people think your at home.. the latest smart tv you can power on remotely.. heck I can play on my PlayStation at home while I’m away to give the impression that I’m still at home owning people on SF..

Patio door locks..

Bribing someone to come to your house once in a while with a gift..

I have a lot of this stuff, if not all of it already.. and if your a frequent traveller, you probably have too…

If you are Dave, get us a iPad mini and cover and I’ll cash up with you, minus 10% :)

Edit: just checked my gift cards.. you have up to 10 years to spend it, yes inflation will eat away at it but unless you really need the cash now… I would just keep it and if there’s still nothing that you need when you get back, it’s worth trying to do your supermarket shop on there.
