Heh...made ya look ;)

Really though, what are the best / favourite vegetables to eat (Not Fruit - mustn't have the sugar), and why?

I need to change my lunch with more good-stuff, less bread & cheese & crips and stuff. Gota something healthy and cut down on sugar, so no extra fruit and ditch the carbs in place of veg.

Cherry tomatoes! Actually a fruit but they are lush! And good for you.

Baby carrots, also good for you. Don't bother with dips.

Funny you should title the thread Turnips, the only veg i like are root veg like turnips, carrots, potatoes etc. Can't stand the green one (even through i know they're the best for me)

Parsnips. Roasted with olive oil and rosemary. Love the taste and smell, and they make me think of colder times of the year.

Onions ! I love onions. Recently I've been making tuna mayo sandwiches and slipping in lots of chopped raw onions. Heaven I tell you ! lol :D

Are you doing low carb as well as extremely low sugar?
What you trying to achieve?
Are you eating potatoes or other high carb veg?

I have brown rice with red lentils, chicken, cauliflower, carrots, peas, pepper (the green and red ones), spinach and a bit of leek. Rice is spiced generally with curry and mango.

Veg is frozen and put into the tub's with the cooked brown rice, red lentils and chicken. When microwaved (assuming you have a microwave at work) the steam cooks the veg.

Tub's are about the size of a fist and a half. Job done. You then have yourself a healthy and extremely tasty lunch :) I've been eating that for over a year now I still enjoy it. I tend to use short grain sticky brown rice as its not as "chewy" as long grain brown rice. You can even slap on a bit of sauce if you want once cooked. Just don't over do it with the sauce.

My Consultant says a low GI - High Quality protein lifestyle change; thats what I'm trying to acheive.

Protein is the easy part

Turnip and swede are very good potato alternatives.
Courgettes are amazing and can be stuffed, fried and any number of things.
Take 1/2 a cauliflower head, grate it and sautéed in one tablespoon of butter and you have a very good sauce vehicle, think how rice grabs sauce, but doesn't taste or feel like rice.

Just meat/fish with a mound of veg.
Love some pan seared fish, with asparagus and home made alioli/hollandaise.

I've been going through recipe books/magazines and thing to find suitable recipes.
Typing low GI/low carb, just gets **** recipes that try to make normal meals with replacements made of coconut and other flours, which I hate. There's actually a surprising amount of recipes out there, that are just naturally low in those things.

And do not go low fat as well. That will give you the runs. You need fat, just make it healthy fats.
Animal fats, butter, olive oil, coconut oil, nut oils. Avoid vegtable oils.
