Can’t remember the last time I watched a TV ad that advertised a video game. I tend to not watch a lot of TV, however think I remember seeing NFS Shift being advertised for PS3, Xbox360 and PSP yet no mention of PC, this was back in October last year.
I’m fairly sure publisher gets some revenue for advertising their games with logos of say xbox360 etc… I’ve seen advertisements in the past for games that were multi platform and only mentioned one system. Xbox360 has been known for this, advert ends with the spinning X logo and the xbox 360 boot up sound.
Truthfully, nobody cares about the PC gaming market anymore other then enthusiasts and hobbyist. You’re general joe blog isn’t waiting for a COD black ops ad to feature about how great the game is on PC. Nearly all serious PC gamers know about the game. Internet and word of mouth in the PC community is more then enough. Any decent PC gamer is well connected, advertisements like this aren’t needed.
Casual console players might not know about the game though, or know of it, but the advertisement tempts them further… And this is the market they are also aiming at.
I will however add a controversial statement. I’m sorry to say but the PC gaming market for AAA titles is ever changing, and you’re only chance of seeing “most” AAA titles on the PC is down to development for games consoles. They are driving the market, they are the most profitable. They are the target audience for publishers, and as such get the larger slice of the pie.
The PC market is downgrading IMO to indie and smaller developments, nearly all AAA titles for the PC are ports from consoles. Doesn’t mean PC is dead in the water.
Just changing..
Anyone who really plays PC games and has done since the early 90’s will know 1994 – 2003 was the best gaming years of the PC. So many great titles that pushed your system to the max.. Not anymore.
Anyhow, as I said, controversial. And IMO.
