Im at uni, just got my tv from home as im moving into my new house over summer. (im at uni doing a summer job)

anyway in the halls of res, theres an aerial port in the wall. 2 mates in rooms next to me are working fine, just got an aerial cable from the super market and im getting about 12% signal strength and 2% quality on my freeview box. It cant even "update".

Anyway to boost this, or shall I go prod a porter in the morning?

A plug in booster won't fix this problem (it can help get that last bit of signal in some cases but does very little for the majority). You need to find out the cause of the poor signal :)

the socket seems a big wiggly (ie, the lead just fell out!) I opened it up but it all seems connected afaik. Anyone got a pic of what the inside of a single output aerial socket should look like? Theres a copper piece of metal thats just floating, and a screwed in metal slat thats not doing anything it seems.

I'll give the main porter a shout in the morn it seems. Bit annoying though :(
