TWO digital telly set-top boxes have sent SOS signals to coastguards.

Lifeboats were scrambled as the freak signal from gran Mary Donaldson’s Freeview gadget went out on a wavelength used by ships in distress.

It was picked up 600 miles away by rescue co-ordinators at RAF Kinloss in Scotland, who alerted coastguards near her home in Plymouth, Devon.

Weird how sent a signal off it sent warship out aswell :/

A similar incident happened about a month ago in Portsmouth (BBC News link). A coastguard helicopter was scrambled and spent two hours searching before they realised the signal was coming from inland.

Reading that article on The Sun's website is painful, and they're hardly the most reliable source for this kind of news :p

I know this happened a while ago but I saw it on Sky News this morning when I was on the train.

I think it might have happened again.
