Hi dont know where to put this so i guess it's hardwareish so it's here.

Question 1 Plasma or LCD

Question 2 Which plasma or LCD

Question 3 does anyone know about wallmounting? I have plasterboard walls and dont know if i can wallmount my TV if i get one, it's kinda important to get it up on the wall so if it's not possible and theres an alternative id like to know
 
1. Plasma for tv veiwing, movie viewing gaming etc anything that's not 'desktop PC use'

2. Panasonic or Pioneer. PX80 in 37 or 42 inch variety. Around 600, does 720p set. PZ80, can be 42 or 50 inch about 800 or a grand respectively. a full 1080p set. Pioneers are better, but about 2x the price.

3. Plasterboard - not directly. You need to mount it onto the studs in the wall. These are the same studs your plaster board is fixed to. Usually 2x4 or or similar, spaced at every 400 or 600 mm

What is your viewing distance?
What will you be using the TV for (HD/Blu-ray, console gaming, etc?)
What is your budget?
 
Plasma: good brands Pioneer Kuro ($$$) or Panasonic Viera
pro:
- deeper black,
- faster response time 0.01ms (better for sports because of motion)
con:
- only 40" + sizes
- reflective surface, ie glare from outside daylight on screen
- burn in. all plasma screens burn over time however you can get what you is frequently called "burn"; this happens with static images on screen cause screen to burn unevenly across surface (such as black bars in movies, health bars or logos etc...) this will cause "ghost" after 4+ hours. Plasma have gotten better and there are some "fixes" ie a common one is to run special dvd that basically burn the whole screen evenly to make it even again. However the brightness will fade over time of the unit, that is the nature of the beast

LCD: Samsung 6 series or Sony W series
pro
- no burn 24/7 etc...
- no reflective/glare
- all sizes up to 50"
con
- black can look midnight gray (although new samsung 6 series seems to be getting quite good); in dark rooms you can see "LCD backlight" which makes blacks appear "grayish"
- motion can appear blurry (although this is improving)
- slower response (2-5ms) time than plasma

choice basically depends on use and size requirement. For extended use and gaming, I would recommed LCD; for movies and sports, I would recommend Plasma (but will need to take precautions when using it, esecially for the first 200 hours)

My plasma is on 18+ hours a day. Mostly kids tv. some programmes I watch, a few hours of Wii, and web browser games. The worst I've seen is a bit of image retention for about 5 minutes, only visible if you switch from a bright screen to a black screen. As soon as you 'refresh' the screen with another picture the IR dissapears. I think screen burn is largely a problem of the past... Someone posted in anothe rthread that he oftens wakes up to his DVD players menu after falling asleep and there's no sign of any problem after hours of the same image.
 
I'd definitely go for a Plasma with your uses then.

I recommend the TH37PX80 as my brother has one and it's an amazing TV for the price. It looks stunning in movies, with deep blacks and amazing clarity. Gaming on his PS3 is also very good.
It can be had for around £500 inc a 5 year warranty.
