TV licence question

Im having a slight problem with these people. Anyway I have a simple query. I don't have my old licence on me, its back at uni.

They took payment by direct debit, leaving a 10 digit number as a reference. Could anybody confirm is this reference is the license number?

If your address is licenced then it should be on record and i wouldn't worry about it.

Just checked my online banking, the DD ref and reference on my lovely 'renewal overdue' letter match up. So yes, they should be the same. The letter does have 02 following the licence number, but that might just be because it's my second TV licence since moving in. Apart from that they appear identical.

and Raymond, the problem is that they are still debiting my account for a lisence which I took out where i was living last year. It states fairly clearly on their website that the license must be renewed every 12 months but i did NOT renew it. They want the lisence number in order to speak to them.

apparently they dont need renewal when using direct debit, con artists! :mad:
