Tv licence

That's a bit spurious. There are plenty of taxes that you only have to pay if you use a particular service or incur the relevant transactions that are subject to that tax.

Yeah I know, I was going to suggest things like taxes on cigarettes etc.. The reason I said it though is because that line always goes down the "have to pay it route" which, well, you dont.

Do you think thats wise, with out explaining the ins and outs. As the OP clearly doesn't know the ins and outs. But then explaining the ins and outs is probably against forum rules.

All I'm saying is that you can get by just fine without a licence even though it's legally required. Nothing wrong with watching channels that have nothing to do with the BBC anyway. Not even taking into account the issue of unsolicited goods.

In that sense it's more comparable to underpaying your self assessed income tax... You don't have to pay your taxes if you don't want to! Except you blatantly do!

I see your point though. It's not automated so there is more scope for getting away with it.

It's not unsolicited goods, though, is it?

Always fun when people conflate incompatible bits of law.

No because the chance of being discovered is less than nothing.

But yes, because legally you are at fault, regardless of the actual risk involved. The legality of an action is not determined by how likely you are to get caught committing it.

EDIT: HAT-TRICK.

It is in every way that matters, data sent to you without prior request and then trying to fine you for using it.

The legality is irrelevant as I have already made clear, I said practically.

It is no way unsolicited goods. You are not fined for radio waves passing through your property. That is a totally stupid argument.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. I don't think its anything like that. If you don't use the service then you don't pay the "tax", legally. Much like other actual taxes like tobacco and alcohol taxes. Its not like underpaying that I can see.

Unless of course you misquoted and meant to reply to energize?

I think I was misunderstanding you when you said that you "don't have to pay it" as though you meant that you could use the service but if you didn't self-report then you don't have to pay it.

its not like a parcel being posted through your door that you can just pick up and use. You have to have a certain bit of complex equipment to receive it which means you have to intend to use that signal.

in a similar scenario then satellite tv is an unsolicited good as well. Why should be pay our sky subscription as it is broadcast to our houses. You just need to get a disk, box and chipped card to receive it free.

There is no such law on unsolicited... data? Services? If the argument had any credibility to it then it would have been used by someone with a chipped Sky box or whatever.

I realised what went wrong when I re read my post. I probably should have put
