tv license

Just tell them you don't have a TV. Problem solved!

I've never had a single visit, despite never paying the TV tax and I have seven TVs in the house.

Won't stop them sending him nasty letters though.
This is what really bugs me. I think the license is good value but the way they market themselves as some sort of mafia group who you need to pay "protection" to is appalling.

If you call up TV licensing and tell them you have a TV but arent using it to watch anything then theyll get you to make a statement to that effect and theyll stop hassling you so often.

Yeah that's what I did. 3 or 4 times. In the end they sent a letter saying I won't be asked again for a period of 3 years.

The problem is the op states he does watch tv but not much.

It's all or nothing.

Not if by 'doesn't watch TV much' he means he can live with using iPlayer and so on. For example I only watch two UK programmes, perhaps three. I can easily watch them online for free without paying for a TV license. The links in this thread are brilliant. :D

let me get this right, I have a few tvs in the house, none of them are used to watch terrestial tv, and really only one is used for Sky TV (which I pay seperately for!). Does that mean I can stop paying my license? If not, what happens if I go away for a long period, can i claim it back?

No, you need a TV License to watch live TV broadcasts even if you don't watch the BBC. You can only avoid paying the fee if you don't own receiving equipment at all, or don't use the equipment you do own to receive live broadcasts (i.e. it's for games consoles, DVDs etc only).

You still need a TV license.
