TV License :(

I have a TV License question myself, but thought i'd resurrect this few day old thread instead of creating a new one.

Today a letter was dropped through the door of my flat, it said "Enforcement notice enclosed", so I opened it up confused only to realise on the first line it was for the previous tenant here, I moved in in March.

The previous tenant cancelled their TV license just before they moved out, and TV Licensing don't seem to approve of that, they are going to be sending inspectors yadda yadda yadda.

Now, I do have a TV here but it's not plugged into an arial, and as far as I can tell I don't actually have an arial here. I only use the TV for streaming movies from Plex over my network, never TV episodes as I have yet to find a show I have liked since Stargate Atlantis finished, and never anything at the same time as it's broadcast.

So fine right? I went to the TV Licensing site and filled out the form to say I do not require a TV License. My question is though, do they actually believe this? Would I have been better off ignoring the letters? I have heard they never actually send anyone round, but is that the case? Have I just subjected myself to a year of harassment by drawing their attention to me? If they do turn up to inspect, what are the chances they believe I don't use the TV for watching TV?

It seems that the answer would be, yes you are better off just completely ignoring them and never making contact, even to tell them you don't need one. If an agent now appears at your door, simply tell them you don't need a licence then close the door to them :)

I don't own a TV and if i do watch anything its online and on demand. I have 27 letters so far (in a pile) and ignored every one. As I'm out the house 12 hours a day i've never had a visit from the lovely TVL folks.

One day i will get around to righting them a letter and sending recorded delivery.

Wonder if i could notify them i will charge £100 per letter received hereafter once i have notified them.

They send me a threatogram letter once a month, can usually time when it will arrive by a few days. :D

Get a visit usually every 6-9 months but I'm usually out when they call or I don't answer. I only answer door when I'm expecting someone or a parcel delivery.

The leaflet they push through letter box when I'm not in with "We said we'd call" written on is borderline harassment.

I think I will cancel mine haven't watched live tv in months after our house rabbits chewed through the aerial cable.

Just need to get the Mrs on board and then tell her too ignore the door

No licence here since 2004. I do not watch live tv.
Get a letter every couple of years asking if anything has changed, and make an online declaration.

No hassle whatsoever from them.

I've been getting letters for 2 years at a renovation i'm doing. No-ones turned up yet to have a look. If they had they would stop sending the letters Its obvious there's no TV.

Send them a letter telling them that you have removed their implied right of access and they are NOT to enter your property.

That way they need a court order to look through your windows or step foot on your property

Quite interested in this.

Always used to have the full sky package. Found myself using it less and less, got hooked on netflix watching series after series and eventually cancelled my sky.

I bought a new freesat HD (with freetime) so I can record etc. But I've got to say, I hardly ever watch live TV. The odd time I feel like watching something, I flick through the channels and there is nothing on.

How are people getting their on demand through the TV? At the moment my iplayer etc is through my freesat box, do I need to get a smart TV?

Will have a look into Now TV as I've pretty much got to the end of most netflix series!

You don't let them in, you are under no obligation to do so. Also, even if you were watching TV episodes streamed via plex, you wouldn't need a TV license.

Within 2 days of moving to our current house we had someone knocking on the door to see why we didn't have a license. It had been empty for years before we moved in. We did in fact have one, I'd updated the address with them over the phone.

Not missing live tv since cancelling sky last week. In fact I've found loads of stuff on demand to watch, if anything I'm watching more tv now via the now tv box and sky entertainment and movies packs.
