Is it a bad idea to have a TV on a wall with windows? I am thinking it is as the light will make it harder to see the screen?

That may be the ideal place for the TV to be as it will be in shadow. The sun will shine through the window and hit the other walls in the room depending on the time of day.

Yes but your eyes will have trouble focusing on the screen due to the blazing sunlight around the TV!

What!, a thin pair of curtains will remove glare and still let lengthy of light through.

Personally, I can't watch TV like that; light either side of the TV or in my peripheral vision makes it harder for my eyes to focus on the TV. I already moved my living room around for this exact reason. But if the OP can put up with it, fill your boots! :p If you want to watch a film in the dark in daytime and have thin curtains then you're stuffed then, too.

My GF's parents have their TV on a stand in front of a bay window, it is about window height.

Its no problem except when it is very bright, although that window is not directly in line with the sun at any point in the day - you need to make sure you aren't putting it on a wall that the sun directly shines on.

Here is the layout, the windows face North West:

Aaaah a bedroom.....why didn,t you say so??
Perfectly acceptable to use a pair of modern, fully adjustable curtains of your choice in such circumstances!!

If you like watching TV in a room with no natural light, sure.

I have to have my curtains closed all day due to our idiotic landlords...

They decided to put the desk in our rooms (screwed in work surface, so can't be moved), against the windows.... Great I thought when I looked around, what a lovely view I get. Move in a couple of months later, put computer screens down... I was either blinded or got a perfect reflection of my room. So now my curtains stay mostly drawn so only small amounts of light get in...
