I have a Samsung Smart TV which is hooked up to my Sky box and my Onkyo 2:1 sound system < this is connected via optical out and the Sky is via HDMI

Ever since I have had this set up what really really bugs me is the varying sound levels produced. I have gone into the TV set up and set it to auto adjust but if I listen via the SKy box I have to turn the level up quite high but then if listen to things on my NAS box which is via the optical out I have to turn it down .. and in some cases (various scenes) the noise is incredibly loud at no point does the sound auto adjust

Is there anyway/ configuration I can get it so that the levels are equal no matter what sound is produced, as at the moment I have to sit with my Onyko control moving the volume up and down?

It's Sky and it is the way it'll remain I'm afraid. Many threads about it on AVForums and the Sky forums.

A few observations to add to V F's useful post...

If the Sky box and NAS are routed to the TV first, and then the TV's optical out goes to the Onkyo, then I wouldn't be surprised at all if Auto Adjust fails to work. My guess would be it only works for the TV speakers and then only when watching the TV's internal Freeview tuner.

You'd have more control of the relative source volumes if you could route everything via the Onkyo 2.1 system first. Or, if you're using DLNA on the Samsung TV to access the NAS content, then at least put the Sky HDMI or optical in to the Onkyo alongside the TV audio out on Optical. That way you could use the volume trim feature (if the 2.1 system has it) to lessen the difference between Sky and the TV/NAS.

Thanks for the replies

is there a set up that you can buy (sound bar another 2:1) where you can have the best of both worlds? Or is it simply not realistic to expect?

I am open to new set ups if it means I can gain some control as at present this is driving me nuts, and as has been pointed out I am not the only one. Surely there is a solution?
