TV sound through TV and another speaker at the same time?

OK, I'm not sure if there is an answer to this one, may be really obvious or may be impossible so ill just give the scenario and see what comes back.....

There is a kitchen/diner room. There is a TV on the wall which is online for Netflix etc and has a Sky Q box attached. Because of it being on the wall no other devices can be wired to the telly. Sound currently comes through the speakers on the tv.

The other half of the room is a kitchen.

It is normal for one person to be in the dining area watching the TV or listening to Spotify on the TV while another person in the kitchen part is cooking.

Is it possible to output sound through the TV as above, but also have it come through another speaker in the kitchen so the person cooking can hear the audio from the TV without the volume on the TV having to be turned up and blast the poor soul in the dining area? I can't think of any obvious way of doing this but it can be that hard can it?

If you’re wiring in 1 speaker to the kitchen area you might as well wire in 2 (or 4 if you want stereo) and have speakers in both areas. Only way I think you could achieve it.

I take it you want to do this without adding any wiring between the TV point and the kitchen?

Potentially it is possible, but you'll probably need some extra hardware to make the wireless link.

Check out the spec for your TV (paper manual / online / download / eHelp). You're looking for an audio out, usually digital optical A.K.A. TOSlink. Whatever sound is coming from the TV speakers, you will get the same sound from this socket but with one small difference, and that is that the TV volume control has no effect on it. This is a good thing. It means that the person listening in the kitchen won't suddenly find the sound goes too loud or too quiet as someone in the dining room adjusts the TV volume.

TOSlink will give you the sound from the TV tuner, and the TVs own built-in apps, and the Sky Q HDMI input. If the TV has USB playback, then it will work for that too.

Now we have a way to get sound out of the TV, the next stage is to do something useful with it.

The simple answer is a Bluetooth audio link transmitter; one with an optical TOSlink input. This will take the audio from the TV optical socket, and then transmit it to a Bluetooth speaker of your choice. You'll find these kinds of transmitters online for around £30 to £50.

One caveat is distance. Bluetooth has its limits, and things such as walls or the TV screen will reduce the distance down, so this will be a suck-it-and-see test to see if it works.

The other caveat is audio delay. Look for an adapter with aptX low latency technology. This reduces the lag involved in converting a signal to Bluetooth before transmission. You will need a Bluetooth speaker with the same aptX tech' built in to get the benefit.

:)

That would be the absolutely perfect solution thank you for that response! I'm not at the house the tv is in right now so cant check connections however it's on a samsung 32 inch ue22n5200akxxu model so may not have any connections that aren't very standard!

Edit: apparently it has optical digital audio out so I think I'm good to go!

Further Edit : would it pair to an Amazon echo that I have in the kitchen anyway? That can act as a bluetooth speaker I think.
