Twin Turbo "Black Edition"

"You want to give me more stuff than I asked for? Oh no!" That's a good 'problem' to have! ;)

Makes sense. I've had res's before that returned at the top with a long tube similar to that and had problems getting the bubbles out. That sounds like it doesn't have that issue. I'd avoid the waterfall by filling the res above the tube. Otherwise it'll be noisy and introduce more air....but that's just me :)

Haha :D I think its just the thought of being sponsored for the first time and getting stuff for free, a very expensive amount. But hopefully will help Gigabyte Turbo owners like their Asus counterparts. I posted up on a US site were there was a big GPX following with about 5 owners of Turbo cards having just watercooled their Cards not knowing how easy it is to keep the shroud. I believe now they're all rocking Hybrid cards :D

I'll try to fill it to the top hopefully, or how far 1 Ltr gets me :)

Quick snap of the Plexi Block

Bottom left shows it the best. INLET straight to the Res Tube.
Behind is the outlet passing through the Anti-bubble to a Tee for either bleed/Filling and then into the pump, then from the pump to the Exit on the Plexi block.

I'd leave some air space at the top for expansion. Might not get a high enough temperature delta that it becomes a problem but it can happen.

The extra thickness makes sense now. More flexibility but more space.

Let me know how the fan frame gaskets are...might pick some up when I pass my rad down to my wife. Need to make her PC quiet next! :D

Will do, Alphacool states some high Static pressure but I've seen reviews cutting it down by half. Shame they don't make 140mm versions but the WingBoost suits the colour scheme and performed very well in the last build.

Fans will be controlled via Grid+ V2 again like the previous build.

Couldn't resist a quick snap and post.
Just got my son to sleep so took a snap on the way out.
WingBoost 2 matches the Alphacool Surruro quite well :)
Hoping I can Push Pull them but time will tell

Good find. Those are a really good match. Melt the blades until they develop a kink and you won't be able to tell them apart! ;)

Parvum really need to licence out a white 140mm like they do for the 120mm :D

looking close if I'll be able to add push pull to it. Would help a bit with the heat.
Having said that, changing the Rad to an XT45 would have been better aswell but was all planned on the S340 case. Lessons learnt

You could always put yourself in my position: through lack of planning have enough unused/spare parts to build another one! ;)

hoping to continue the White/Black builds with Pascal/Polaris so time will tell.
Heard not to expect cards like the Turbo for the new gen so will have to figure a why to keep the Hybrid theme alive without going down the G10 route etc.

Highly tempting to get a broken 980 ref and have a play around, seem them with Universal blocks like the GPX and Thermosphere but like the Alphacool heatsink. May have to get one made and hack it down- but thats another project for a few months time :D

Have you seen this build log . From about 3/4 of the way down the page he starts modifying Nvidia heatsinks and casings with the aim of keeping the reference look but watercooled. Might be of interest if that's (sort of) the way you want to go.

I remember reading through that one. seems a bit hack and slash with the Heatsink. Will see when the new ones come out for new gen and see what i can do with Alphacool.
I've also got spare Turbo shrouds, might fit the new gen if the same style of PCB is used :D

stitched together some more Shots taken yesterday and today at lunch break.
Some quality lost but will upload off of the JPEGs individually at the end :)
Colour scheme is looking great :D

What size tubing are you going for? Were you aware that Alphacool are one of, if not the only people that make a 45 degree fitting with the compression fitting built in? It's not much but it's a bit shorter and eliminates one joint that could leak. Also slightly cheaper than buying a 45 and a straight.

13/10mm, but that was based on the S340 being so tight. P400 should just be as tight, bit a little longer, might of got awa with 16/10mm

I think I did have 2 of the 45 with compression built in as well as 2 without. Havent gone through all the fittings, yet. would be the next pic shots I think.

bugging me I cant find the shot i Did with Ram at forefront and 280mm Rad at the back, shows off the colours nicely

Managed to get a few snaps on my phone of rad placement and sizing .

Tape measure is laid out for the length of the Twin Turbo 263mm, can see from the bottom two, can't do Push Pull by 8mm nor have fittings on the bottom by 3mm. Top Push with fittings in top it is.

You can also see the 250 res does fit but I'm not going to be able to add the second top 140mm. As I want the Rear rad to be pulling in cold air I want and Need the second top exit, if I was just having the rear rad exit I'd go for the larger res.

Ah the joys of space-limited cases. You don't want a massive case but you want to fit ALL the rads in. At least that's my problem. So much so that I gave up and just bolted 'em on the outside :D
At least looks like you have options though.

True, will see how build goes to see if I prefer this to the S340. On paper its better just for the extra top fan.

Would be interesting to see if a 45mm rad could go in the front.
Just a shame these Turbo cards will be the last. Guessing everyone's seen the specs for the 1080 being 15w TPD higher then the 980. Believe from what in told the 1070 is higjer , and the Turbos, at least Asus version was useless for the 970 chip ! 960 it wasn't to bad .

Might have to build this and sell the GPUs sperately and get the 1070s in.
Seems with rough prices 1070 will still be higher then the 970 so shouldn't drop the price much. Blessing and a curse for some

You could always try the Alphacool block and heatsink and add a blower style fan. A bit of thin acrylic sheet bent 90 degrees and with a fan hole cut out and you'd have a HTC 1070 Orbital :D
Obviously dependent on the Alphacool stuff being available for the new cards. Also demand vs cost would be an issue. A one-off you can justify the high cost. Mass production you can reduce the cost. In between - where you're likely to be positioned is sort of an anti sweet spot. A sour spot if you like. But if you can make them cheap enough and sell them it would be cool. </ramble>
