Looking to upgrade my sons PC so he can have a go at Twitch streaming, wondering what sort of specs would comfortably do it. Would like to stream at 1080p.

Currently
3570K
8GB RAM
AMD 390 card

Thinking something like this would be plenty
2600(or 2600X)
16GB ram
1070Ti

May get him a 1440p monitor too so 1070Ti should be sufficient for that just wonder at any Twitch overheads slowing things down too much.

Obviously needs a mic and a good webcam/camera.

c920 or c922 for webcam sir, snowball, rode all decent mics depending how much you wanna spend or there is cheaper alertantives. I general use streamlabs for the stream software but some do use xsplit, you can get 1080, but alot in general stick around the 720p source as its altering the bitrate etc which can cause frame drops

save funds, 8GB of ram extra off the bay or something .

vega 64 with 3 free games, also allows freesync monitor which are cheaper . 1440p 144hz model but when streaming knock down to 1080p and will run over 100hz for fast gameplay his end.
capture card will save stress of CPU and capture a clean image etc
if you still have funds left over - second hand i7 and overclock

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,051.67 (includes shipping: £11.70)

loose rule of thumb with streaming solely off CPU- Ryzen give the viewer a better FPS count and intel give's better FPS for the streamer

all out and free 256GB SSD

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,375.54 (includes shipping: £12.60)

overclock to 3.9/4ghz all cores . If your sons OS is already stored in HDD then can use AMD StoreMI to add the SSD to it for a fast large hybrid drive

keep any current screen for basic second screen to view stream content/chat etc

Some good options there, thanks. Didnt think about a video capture card, looks a good bet. If I went new board/CPU route I think I would go with Ryzen+.

However I already have 2 x 1070ti's in my mining rig so would probably give him one of those. :)

smooth - worth just getting 1080p 144hz g-sync screen - most likely he'll want to game at fastest possible speed then resolution etc

not much difference with ryzen + or 2*** . if you havent got a capture card then your looking for highest thread/core count.
streaming ryzen 1700 over 2600x would be vastly better etc .

another route would be intel.. 6 core 12 thread 8700 non K with all core speed of 4.3ghz will match ryzen 1700+ when streaming and maintain higher fps for the gamer slightly

bit more cost up front though

cheapest g0sync
