Twitch

I think the thing with people who do this is that the type of person that thinks people will want to watch them play games will tend to be a certain type of obnoxious, abrasive person who loves the sound of their own voice and thinks they're hilarious.

I tend to watch most Starcraft 2 tournaments on Twitch, I also watch some pro gamers streams such a DeMuslim, Kas, Polt and ForGG (Terran ftw).

I dont think always. Day9 for example is just a genuinely hard working guy who likes to share tips and stories. Ducksauce too is a working actor and is just an affiable fella. i think there's a few diamonds in there.

But yes, mostly you're right.

Been watching since it split from JustinTV, I started with Halo since that's my favourite game but then I started watching any competitive game like Starcraft, CS, League of Legends, racing games etc. I just enjoy watching games being played at a high level. I used to livestream my F1 leagues and usually had a good group of viewers who just enjoyed watching competitive racing.

Anyone can stream any game, so there's always a huge choice of things to watch. Whenever a new game comes out there's usually people streaming it on release day so you can have a good look to see what it's like before buying it. There are also some good discussions and hangouts on gaming news, things like the Co-optional Podcast every Tuesday.

Amazing to see how much the site has grown over the past few years. A LoL stream pulled just under 800,000 viewers during the world championships a few weeks ago, and that was just the English stream.

Same thing with radio DJs! Some are great but a lot of them just want to listen to themselves talk and think that everyone else should listen too :/

Just a shame that he over Americanises things at the start, once he gets into it he's good, but at the start I just want to slap him.

I usually watch Awesome Games done Quick Streams but that's usually about it. What puts me off is that most people put so much emphasis on people donating, it doesn't sit right with me for some reason. I mean I've seen an MLS player on there who reportedly earns the best part of $150k a year asking for donations to "help run the stream", I mean come on, really?

I usually watch:

kinggothalion
professorbroman
Morninafterkill
streamerhouse
maximillion
masterkizz
acidglow
edemonster
chicken

really depends on what game takes my fancy.

I don't understand the popularity of Let's Play videos, twitch and so on in the slightest.

As someone else has said, I don't have time to play games these days, let alone to watch some other person play them.

Because playing games takes effort.

Joking aside :

1) It's a way to get a feel for what the game is like without pre-purchase.

2) The game isn't available on your platform, and you want to see what it's all about.

3) Learn strategies, ect...

4) Enjoy the game vicariously because you're a poor peasant who can't afford nice things.

3) It's still better than TV. :)

But yeah, I do enjoy the odd competitive game watching once in a while.
