Can a mod poll this please? Yes I have a page and like it. I don't have a page, but like it. I don't use it and I don't like it

Why is every organisation still trying to push Twitter? What do they get from it?

No one I know has Twitter, non of my Facebook friends have Twitter.

Reason I ask this is because I've just had a Top Gear thing pop up on my Facebook saying...

Top Gear has over 2 million fans on Facebook. Why not follow us over to twitter...

So far there are 146 comments and 9/10 I've read people are hating Twitter.

People are making comments from "Twitter is ****" to "I'd rather die than tweet". Click here to see more.

I don't see the point in it myself ether. Bands, artist, comedians etc I like I have all on Facebook so I'll just see then if there is an announcement about a gig or what ever.

Think of it as a live news feed. It is extremely useful and underrated - I don't have an account personally but I still browse when something big happens, like a disaster.

Frankly I feel the same way about Facebook popularity. Isn't it just a way to waste huge amounts of time essentially doing nothing?

I lost my foofpod (iphone case, http://foofshop.com/) on the train awhile back. Tweeted about it, the shop found my tweet, and sent me out a complimentary replacement.

On Sunday I was using twitter to find some info on a murder that had happened in my area.

Also been having a good laugh reading what FakeNickClegg is up to on there.

Really it's facebook without all the crap.

edit: oh almsot forgot, I've set it up so that I can recieve SMS alerts from my server via a private twitter account.

Recently, I've been using Twitter a lot more than Facebook. Getting rather bored with Facebook as it's just the same thing being posted by everybody in my friends. As at my age, everyone is at school my live feed is just full of people complaining about how they are tired and can't be bothered with school.

Whereas with Twitter, it's being updated by people from all over the world, who live completely different lives than I so there is always something new to read. Like what has been previously said as well, it's also very useful for finding out the latest news, like a natural disaster.

I use it in the sense of looking at what everyone else is doing, but I don't "tweet" myself very often. It's also a way of having direct contact with celebrities/wll known people, for example I've had direct responses from two UFC fighters regarding upcoming fights.

Like now, thanks to twitter I haven't had to watch the news channel on TV or visit a news website and I have learnt that;

"Top U.S. security officials head to Pakistan as part of Times Square plot probe. http://on.cnn.com/btXyrq"

How interesting.

I tweet usually every day or so, and read my feed at least daily. It's the most used social tool I have an account for (bar forums)

I think Twitter is great, been using it over a year now.
I was pretty skeptical at first, as I figured it was just a way of people doing Facebook style updates, without the rest of it.

Ie...
"I just had crumpets for breakfast"
"I just took a dump"
etc.....

However it's not really like that.
You can follow your friends, celebrities, sport personalities, prominent figures, news, events, blogs etc.

I suppose in someways you can look at it like an RSS feed that's tailored to what you want.
