two 9800gtx's vs one 9800gx2

Thanks, (one thing 9800gtx sli 1600x1200 at 48 fps and at 1920x1200 49 fps ??? )
Welcome to world of bottlenecks and scaling. You can see some very odd results at times.
looking that that make's me think that 9800gtx in sli is a really fantastic deal http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-069-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1009 comes to £411.22 same as one gx2 in some places thanks again fornowagain
The only thing for me is the need for an SLi motherboard, only one I'd contemplate is the 790i and that's only DDR3 and a lot of money. And don't forget to factor in PSU needs, 2 GTX may need a little more power & connectors.
HeX if i was to get the gx2 what mobo do u suggest ?
If you have no need for crossfire, I can recommend the Abit IP35 Pro, works well with the GX2. Very solid board.

Personally if I were looking to build a rig I'd get P35+GX2+E8400(@4GHz)

All 8800/9800 products are limited more by memory bandwidth than GPU/Shader power. The best dual GPU setup based on price/performance is the 8800GT in SLI. The best single card is an 8800GT. I personally own a 3850Pro overclocked at 950/2100 which uses low power when idle and offers similar performance to the 8800GT.

Card / Perfomance / Cost
9800GTX SLI = 100% (£420)
9800GX2 = 95% (£375)
8800GTS SLI = 90% (£340)
8800GT SLI= 85% (£250)
3870X2 = 80% (£240)
3870XT Crossfire = 80% (£220)
9600GT SLI = 80% (£210)
8800Ultra=70% (£290)
9800GTX=70% (£215)
8800GTS=65% (£170)
8800GT=60% (£125)
3870XT=55% (£110)
9600GT=55% (£110)

hmmm might get gt then, And i also have a 46 inch Samsung tv what is a good card to use that with ? (1080p)

Its not though, as they are just 8800 GTS 512mb's that are slightly clocked higher, and had an extra £100+ slapped on em, you may as well buy 2x 8800 GTS 512mb's to go in SLi, exact same cards, but will be £200+ cheaper, buying the same 2x cards at over £200 extra is sheer lunacy.
With todays price drop on BFG there's only a £40 difference between the 675MHz OC GTS and the 675MHz stock GTX.

If nvidia are speed binning the GTX chips it might be a bit more tempting. If you want to take the gamble and get a stock GTS you'll only save another £5.88 (each).

Clear as mud? ;)

Any card mentioned above will handle the resolution of your TV easily.

How noisy are a pair of card in SLI likely to be compared to a X2GPU, I am also considering the same option as the OP, do two cards next to each other generate a lot more heat in the case?
