I have two problems in a rebuild (added 2gb memory and new sata hdd).

1) On boot, the computer hangs just after the memory count for anything from 10 seconds to 30+ seconds. When it "resumes" it displays all the drive info.

2) On resume from sleep/standby, 80% of the time my IDE hdd's disappear.

I wonder if these are related.

I thought it was due to a dodgy dvdrw drive that stopped reading discs (could also be related) but I removed that. I've also tried it without the new memory.

Geil 4gb/Asus P5W DH/E660.

I'd have a look at the IDE drives.

Check the cables are secure and that the jumpers are fitted correctly for master/slave.

Usually there is a coloured plug which fits to the main board, the middle device should be slave and the end one master.

Also check in the BIOS to see if there is a HDD delay or Wait for HDD setting and increase this by a few seconds.

I'll check the cable's another day, as I'll need to snip cable routing ties. But the hdd delay is already at "35".... increase it more?

I was convinced the dvdrw was naffed - even though it worked fine previously. May be okay in the end.

Make that 3) My keyboard/mouse used to be able to wake standby up / start the computer. They don't anymore. Bios settings haven't changed (that I'm aware of). Even so, only option seems to be for PS/2 devices and has no effect.
