Two Gateshead men arrested for watching 9/11 Koran burning video

An honest question:

If they weren't trying to incite racial hatred (a crime), then why did they produce the video and upload it onto the internet for public viewing ?

What purpose would it achieve ?

By their comments during the video to show their support for "our boys in afghanistan". But more likely, as a bit of a laugh. All they did was burn two books. There was nothing inciting hatred againt muslims and certianly nothing about inciting hatred against any race.

The US also limits the "first amendment" and how it affects "free speech" - you try sending a letter (or email, or phone call) to the White House threatening the president and you'll probably get an interesting result.
Or at a much less extreme version, you try calling out fire in a theatre/club/cinema and seeing what happens if/when the owners call the police

Not to mention how upset a lot of Americans can get at the thought of someone disrespecting the American Flag - they're almost as bad about that as some Muslims can be about the desecration of the Koran (I believe they've had serious debates and attempts to get desecration of the Flag made illegal many times)..

But how does burning a book support troops ? Even for a 'bit of a laugh', what is the purpose of burning a book other than for central heating / cooking, etc...

Obviously "because everyone else does" is a likely answer, but not really genuine.

Its a fictional book. Its no different than burning some of the Twighlight books or what ever.

If i had one i'd have no problems burning one, if i felt motivated to do so.

It is however just burning a book. Why should that be illegal? They are not telling us to burn muslims, they are not even saying muslims are evil. They are burning a book. Why on earth is that an arrestable offence?

It isn't hard to find video examples of muslims burning the bible. Took me a minute or two on Youtube. As for having more respect for Jesus than Christians, even if you get past the whole "Denying his divinity" thing, I doubt that very much. Especially as Islam considers the basis of Christianity to be a lie.

I have watched the Youtube video and if they have been arrested just on the strength of that then either our laws are worse than I thought or someone needs to have a word with the police.

I've just watched it and I also agree.

It was just a few chavs swearing and leaping around the burning koran saying it was for the soldiers in Afghanistan and 911.

The police who arrested them were obviously suffering from cranium insaneium.
