I had a double lesson very early on and found that i was losing concentration towards the end of the session. This was however very early days, and i was still not quite au fait with the car handling.

Now i'm more advanced and doing three point turns, reverse round a corner and parallell parking do you guy reckon it might be worth trying doubles again?

Thanks for any advice :)

yep. 1 hour lessons just aren't long enough. Apart from my first lesson they where all 2hrs.

You better start getting your concentration, as you generally drive to the test centre then do the test. That's going to take much more than 1 hour.

I had a few 2hour sessions and at the end i lost concentration as well. Any chance you can have 1.5 hour lessons?

I agree with this - all my lessons apart from one or two were two hour lessons

One hour just isn't enough

I had one 2 hour lesson an 7 1 hour lessons. I really disliked the 2 hour format.

So, whatever works best for you is what you should go with!

My instructor didn't allow 1 hour lessons. If they were 1 hour by the time you'd driven to where the bits of town he wanted me to practise on were, we'd have to head back. And if you can't concentrate for 2 hours you shouldn't be allowed in a car imho.

I never had anything less than 2 hours. My friend is an instructor and although will do less than 2 hours he strongly advises doing 1.5-2 hour sessions.

My friends dad taught me, he is an ex police traffic cop so he knew what he was doing :)

He also insisted on 2 Hour lessons.

having a 1 hr lesson is like 3 steps forwards and 2 back...:)

its like this...

0-15 minutes - try and remember what you did last time

15 - 30 minutes practise what you did last time

20-45 minutes learn something new

45-60 go home...

the more you practise the betterm and 2 hour sessions are not that long. for a new driver linger journeys are always harder as you need to concetrate more, but the better you get the les you need to, e.g. i dont think about changing gear, i just do it, but i know that as a new driver ou have to keep thinking of all the things you need mto do, change gear, look in mirrors, look for potential dangers etc, a 2 hour lesson in the early days can be tiring to say the least, but go to 2hrs as soon as you can....you know it makes sense :)

As i said it was very early days so driving was much harder work if you kbnow what i mean :)

I'm trying a double a week on saturday so we'll see.

I'm quite lucky, there are loads of good roads right by me, so two hours is literally two hours tuition, no getting htere and back to worry about.

We'll see :D

well good luck, i'm sure you'll enjoy brum driving (today was a bloody nightmare with the expressway)

2 hrs all the way

when you do your driving test its nearly always a 1hr lesson, then the test ...

once you get the hang of it all, and a bit of confidence it takes less concentration to drive, so the lessons become less draining

i used to do a mock test nearly every lesson, then go over my flaws etc

Good roads , if he's worth paying he will take you round the roads you'll be using on the test day. I live 20mins outside Bristol when I did my test, but It was worth the 20mins to get into town to use the roads I was going to use in the exam. Plus you can travel to it on the small roads making it harder and learning more.

Why not do what I do with my pupils? Take a 5 min break in the middle of the 2 hour lesson? out of the car stretch the legs, smoke em if your got them, then back in refreshed and ready for more :D

My friend does not teach his students the test routes and does not get them to continually practice them.

He wants his students to be able to comfortably drive anywhere, not just the test routes.

I think this is a good idea. No point passing your test then having no confidence to drive anywhere. I have friends like this.

They can't teach you the test routes, but they can drive you around the area, so you know the roads. The tester can take you anywhere within about a 20min drive of the centre.

Ive been having 2 hour lessons as i want to learn asap, also where i live it takes a while to get to the test routes so 1 hour would give me 10 mins or so to ride about i=on the test routes etc.

I agree about the concentration though, by an hour and 30 mins I'm wishing the lesson would end so i can go home. Gets really boring driving about for 2 hours.

Because each minute is precious and it costs a fortune (i know it will cost to insure, fuel etc) but to a 17 year old, £20ish an hour is a lot, those 5 minutes just cost him £1.75 ish :o )

If they dont mind i suppose tho lol :p

I was thinking if we did the manoevres in the middle it would act the same way. When i did my other double lesson i had only done a 3 point turn so it was 1hr 55 minuites of non stop driving around and it did get boring.

Now i'm good enough to try more challenging roads as well it should be better.

And if you can't concentrate for 2 hours you shouldn't be allowed in a car imho.

Sorry i think this is wrong, you work within your limits and do what works for you. If you need a break every hour then take one and plan it into the journey. That's just common sense :)
