Hi there,

I have two queries if someone could answer them It would be much appreciated.

1. Is OC X similar to windows in its interface, configuration and network setup?

2. Is there some application or tool I can get that will allow me to use OS X to see what its like on a desktop PC?

Thanks

1 - No, it is quite a lot different and some people struggle when going over to Mac OS X.

2 - I don't think there is, I seem to remember there was some interactive flash program someone had put on the web to give a test of OS X but it was quite poor and I might be making it up :) Maybe some else knows what I am on about.

Not sure where you live but if you have an Apple store near you it might be worth phoning them up and asking for a One to One shopping thing. Basically you get an hour to chat to an apple person and they can show you Mac OSx etc. I did it just this weekend as I wanted to know more about the Macbook Pro's was very informative.

Urgh, I don't think thats the best idea to be fair. Going to a Mac employee for a one2one session - all that is going to be in the Apple dudes mind is SELL IT. He will make it sound like the muttznuttz regardless of what you ask him.

The only way you will know whether you would get on with a Mac is to use one for a week or 2. Thats how you will properly gauge it.

I do think though that if you went and bought a Mac, you would soon get used to MacOSX and learn to love it.

There is pear pc and an disk image to run os x within vmware; which is os x on intel installed within wmware virtual machines. both are illegal and extremly slow from what I heard.

If your used to a windows, its like learning a foreign language. I tend to found myself thinking about how to do it within windows; thou a lot of it I dont even have to think about it as it just comes naturally and thats the hard part; breaking tasks down - then translating it to mac os x and finding it a lot easier to do in os x....

After using my apple for 1 year-ish I tend to try doing things apple style now in my windows machine.

My Mac is for working and my windows machine is for play and fixing - mainly fixing.....

Doesn't this border on legality

Not seen many threads for a while asking for OSX on a pc. Isn't there a sticky thread about this?

I thought the software license of mac OSX stated you must have apple hardware to run it

It also costs a lot of money ( £89.00 ) and has no trial version.

Running OS X on non-Mac hardware is 100% illegal.

Slinxy, you might want to edit your post before you go on holiday FAQ :o

The only way to run Tiger or OS X is to have a Mac, and the easiest way to do this is to either visit an Apple store or use a friend's and try it for yourself. If they have an Intel-Mac then you can use BootCamp to do a direct comparison on the same machine; Windows Vs. OS X
