Two PCs connected to one wall socket - safe?

I think a decent UPS gives you a good 10 minutes or so just to save your stuff and shut down. It will prob be longer if you use a 17" or 19" LCD which use even less power than their CRT brothers :)

I have a plug in power-o-matic too. In one socket i have . . . wireless router, cable modem, r200 printer, cordless phone, medusa headphones and amp, logitech speakers, pc as per sig (620W corsair power supply) and a 20.1" monitor. It draws 260W from the mains idling along and 341W fully loaded. The router, cable modem and phone are the only things left connected 24/7 (I have a 'kill' switch on my desk that cuts all power to pc and peripherals). These draw 13W. Its quite surprising how little electricity they actually use.

LOL, if all thats drawing JUST 13Watts. Well then i got to have your System!
Your more than likely mixing the Watts with Amps (Amperage). :o

Power (Watts) = Voltage x Amps ;)

how long do UPSes last when the powers gone out? are they generally long enough to save and shutdown or are we talking serious lengths of time?

Depends on the model, anywhere from 5 mins to days.

Depends on the VA rating.

Got a 650VA/400W APC UPS that gives ~11mins on a X2 4600+ & 19" CRT system  Its also got a USB cable that plugs into the PC. This makes the machine act just like a laptop where Windows can warn you if the battery is low on power failure. Then just like a laptop, it will hibernate if it gets to a certain low level

Yep, just read it again. you will get it eventually . . . . :p

Anyway . . . . 230V x 13A = 2990W.

So nope, definately not mixed up.

pointless wee thread here, anyone want to tell me a good extension lead surge protector or are they all the same?

The inside of my belkin UPS
