Two PCs (or more!!)

Gaming PC for me, Gaming PC for my wife, Work Pc, Work PC for my wife, laptop, laptop for my wife, HTPC in the lounge, HTPC in the bedroom, and most recently a steam deck.

Its actually not as insane as it sounds as for the most part its all hand me down stuff, wifes gaming PC is largely made of my old gaming PC, Lounge HTPC is mostly my gaming PC from before that, other HTPC is a fairly cheapo mini pc, and both laptops are fairly budget models. And the work PCs are obviously supplied by the companies we work for.

So really just a side effect of being in the PC building hobby for over 25 years

Main system, and a backup/TV big screen gaming (formerly home cinema as well) system.

I typically try and keep both systems in the same gen so that parts can be swapped around without issues for testing (for issues) or if something is upgraded and allows the (backup) system to get the hand-me-down.

But DDR5, AM5 parts that aren't the CPU are still fairly expensive at the moment, needing at least £600 (as of today) to grab motherboard (B chipset series), CPU and RAM (16GB of DDR5 basic 3200Mhz) assuming I keep existing other parts. So for now, I've got mismatched systems but they both work without issues (unlike my original X79 motherboard setup that has been plagued with issues since first build in 2012) so I'm not overly fussed over not being able to use them to back each other up in terms of parts.

If I do upgrade the backup system, to bring them both in line with each other in terms of generational compatibility of hardware (I always like being able to diagnose issues myself so that RMA's are easier and cleaner to perform), it'll probably be a bit later on when prices come down more. Probably a 7600X or 7600 (when it releases) with cheaper DDR5 and motherboard.
