Going to test drive two different cars at different independent garages today.

Both 57 plate 1.8 TDCi Fords. Both same colour. Both Zetec trim. Both previously reps cars from the same well known company that seems to have been having a clear out. Both listed at £4995.

One is a Focus estate with 92k on the clock. The other is a Mondeo hatchback with 127k on the clock.

This will really be an opportunity for the missus to drive 2 larger cars. She has a Y reg Fiesta. But supposing she likes both, what do you reckon?

I will mainly be doing the driving but she'll have it some of the time hence need agreement.

Not forced to get either of these two but at least she'll have tried both. Would have probably changed car weeks ago if I didn't need to seek approval.

focus estates are just a strange visual shape in my opinion. I upgraded to a mondy from a focus after I wrapped mine around a tree, the mondy is obviously heavier but it can shift, Im happy with it atm.

I'm taking that mileage is not much to worry about if servicing and maintenance have been done well and the car is in decent condition?

Mondy is advertised with 3 month warranty. Have got a quote of £75 + VAT from local main Ford Dealer to do full inspection and diagnostic with condition report once I'd bought the car. Would get that done before warranty ran out.

What sort of driving tho? Lots of motorway driving and the mondeo would be a better choice, but if it's a/b roads then the focus might be more fun?

Mondy is out. Wife not keen and a few issues became apparent. With both cars there's a fair bit of turbo-diesel lag unless you drive with particularly heavy feet.

Focus still a possibility plus dealer fairly generous on my part ex. Going to extend search before committing though.
