OK I read somewhere recently that it is safer to work using a normal account in Win 7 rather than administrator is this true? If so can someone point me to a good website for explanation of this does it really stop viruses, etc?

Secondly I tried this briefly last night creating an admin account and reducing my account to basic but I found I could no longer open my truecrypt files as it said I didn't have proper access so is there anywhere on the web that explains this since the 15 page guide I got with Win 7 doesn't really explain it at all. hehe

admin = access all folders / reg keys
user = cannot access all files / reg keys

a lot of virus will not install correctly if you are a user as they want to update files / reg keys you dont have access to change as a user

If you open TrueCrypt - or any other application - As Administrator, you are prompted for Admin username and password. So you should still be able to use TrueCrypt.

A Standard account has no access to system files/reg keys etc. All you can change is stuff linked to your profile. So while malware/virus can still potentially work, it can only damage your profile and not the whole machine.

unless it uses an OS / App exploit go gain elivated permissions....

Many thanks Sirius B regarding the run as administrator is it possible to have this as default for truecrypt or must I right click each time?
