Hello

i am upgrading my dell dimension 8300 with -
Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 Rev2 (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard £46.99
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £121.01

i have a 3850 powercolor agp card and 2 gigs of ddr1

1. can someone recommend a cpu cooler for me, i wont be overclocking so it does not have to be very expensive

2. is this processor \ Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 a (Kentsfield) as my new mobo only supports them in quad flavour

1. Well if you're not overclocking, why not stick with the stock hsf?
I'm using one and my cpu is clocked to 3200Mhz!

2. Yes

3. Should do.

Maybe an aftermarket for less noise? I dunno. A cheap one is the artic freezer pro, and performs very well.

Running my stock hsf at 1300rpm, can't hear it.

Even at full throttle (2000rpm), it's pretty quiet. It isn't stock for the Q6600 though, got it thrown in when I bought the cpu from MM. My old E2180 hsf was a lot noisier, but I think that ran up to 2900rpm.

If your not overclocking then yes the included HSF the intel provides will be enough to cool your Q6600 however if you wish the system to be as quiet as possible without sacrificing performance then the suggestion of the artic freezer pro is a good one
