Hello, in the middle of a build (my first real build) and everything has went alright so far and hopefully the system will work first time - touch wood.
However, I've got round to installing the SATA drives and as I've only ever worked with IDE - I'm a bit unsure in regards to two things - hence the two questions.
1) How do you set the slave and main drives on SATA? No jumpers came with the drives but they do have the pinsets like a normal IDE drive - do I have to go and get jumpers to set their rank within the system?
2) This is connection related. The back of my SATA drives look like this:
As you can see, I'm the artist of the family. I also think I messed up the L-Shape of the SATA connection, but you get my drift.
The red is the connection between my PSU and SATA drive and the blue is the connection between the motherboard and SATA drive.
Should this work or am I required to use up the extra ports on the drive? I imagine that this would work as a power and motherboard connections are enabled - but the 4 pin connection confuses me. Is this just for power supplies that do not have SATA connection?
