Basically i got a Megahalems about a week ago with 2 Apache fans installed onto it however i feel the temps are a tad high because i play in a hot room usually so i am wondering if these will make a difference:

1.I am using AS5, should i buy MX-3 and try it instead?

2.Should i get a pair of Slipstreams 1900rpm to replace my Apaches?

By the way my idle temps are usually 50-53c on all cores at 4ghz and about 65-75c whilst gaming on each core.(depending on game/room temp).

If i did go with both above options i am wondering if they will lower the temp of each core by about 5c at least unless i am expecting too much.

What vcore you using for that? my room is hot due to folding i7's room temp is 26c all the time and my gaming rig still wont hit your temps using the same fans and TIM. Maybe time for a reseat of the cooler?

1.28v the vcore is, how long does the paste actually take to settle in proper if the pc is used everyday? about a month?

Curing time can take up to 200 hours according Artic silver's website.

I don't think it will make a massive difference though, maybe 2-3 degrees at most.

Well anyway going to reseat the cooler, so going to order some MX-3 but you guys think i should go for a pair of Viper fans or something else? please help if possible as i wish to order tonight. :)

Also i got the Antec 902 case so might use one of my Apaches as a sidefan.

I am running a Viper on a Scythe Kama Angle in a case with three Vipers as case fans.

My temps,

Core 0-41*C low
Core 1-27*C low
Core 2-40*C low
Core 3-36*C low

Changing from Artic Silver 5 to MX-3 seems to make no noticeable difference to me.

The MX3 may give slightly lower temps, but as with any paste, it'll depend on the application, as ive seen drops/rises in temps on various applications. The fans again may only achieve a slight drop, ive used sharkoon silent eagle 2000's, silent eagle se 1200 rpm, arcting cooling F12 1350 rpm and 1900 rpm vipers on my old TRUE all in push/pull, tbh there was only a difference of 1-3c between all of them.

Are the Vipers noisy at full speed? also do you guys think it's best to do the 2 line method of paste on my Megahalems due to it being a heatpipe cooler?

Reason why i might order a pair plus MX-3 is like i said my room gets hot sometimes so want as much better cooling as i can yet i do not wish to go watercooling either. :p

I am wondering though if the Antec 902 exhaust fan is good enough as when i placed my hand behind it earlier i didn't feel much air being moved out.

The vipers are pretty loud on my megahelims, but when i had them on my TRUE they were quieter, possibly due to the gap in the centre of the megahelims. Also a single line of paste is what you need, the heatpipe your thinking off is a cooler where the heatpipes form a part of the base and actually touch the cpu surface, theese are known as direct heatpipe contact coolers, examples are the titan fenrir and sunbeam core contact.

Ah well sod it, going to order 2 Vipers with MX-3, hope the reseating works otherwise i'll be dissappointed and may end up just ordering a new case lol.:)

Thanks for the replies will update when they arrive and installed.

Right an update, TNA from these forums came over again to resolve this issue, the dust filters were cleaned, fans replaced with dual vipers and the paste replaced with MX-3.

My idle 4ghz temps went from 52-55c to 41-43c(the image ones are taken right after Burntest finished), a huge drop and my load temps are here after 5 Burntest runs although i could do more but doubt it will break 70c anyway and system is stable for games:

Very happy now and a big thanks to TNA on these forums also thanks for the advice in this thread it did help. :)

Very happy we managed to hit those temps, such a improvement!

I hope you enjoy the cool overclock. Now get gaming! ;)
