Ok, I think i know the answer to this but i thought I'd ask.

I have setup my outlook email address with a Two Stage Authentication but now my local Outlook client isn't working. yet interestingly enough, the mail app on my iPhone work fine.

Does anyone know of a way round this? I thought it would pick up my main PC as a Trusted Device.

Thanks

I think you have to have a specific application password for outlook as it doesn't support traditional 2fa.

That was the case when I set up gmail.

You need to generate an App password for the Outlook client.

.. this is my point Outlook 2016 doesn't seem to support 2fa..

Do you have any further details on this please sp00n?

interesting - reading the msoutlook link

When you sign up for 2-Step Verification, we normally send you verification codes. However, these codes do not work with some apps and devices, like Outlook. Instead, you’ll need to authorize the app or device the first time you use it to sign in to your Google Account by generating and entering an App password.

I was unsure what the benefit of this is, versus current situation, where google blocks access to the account from a new device, until you log into google account and authorise that device.
The device seems to be permananetly authorised in both cases, I had though the app passsword might have some time-out and you would get a text message, each day, say, and have to re-authenticate that device.

Has google/gmail got some new security initiative ?
, just had an email (supposedly from google - great trick if its not)
