Types of e-mail security?

Okay so i'm looking into what kind of e-mail security my small/medium size company could start using.

I realise you can use digital signatures, message authentication codes and encyption. But what type of encryption?

should we use a type of Email proxy server? Currently we use SMTP services. S

Any suggestions?
 
what problem are you trying to solve ?


do you want to stop someone between you and the external recipient reading your company mail

do you want to keep payroll/HR emails private within the company

do you want to be able to prove that an email has been altered


(I'm assuming you are not just after a normal AV/Spam type solution)

Hey,

i want to stop someone between myself and an external recipient reading my company email. I generally want to minimise the chance of my email being intercepted or redirected without knowledge. also to prove that an email has been altered
 
but yours is a network support company, so who would be interested in your mail ?

if you encrypt stuff, then the recipient has to be able to decrypt it, ...can they be bothered ?

Encrypted messages can be blocked by spam filters (...or we scan for such content anyway)

Assumption:) My company is not network support. My department mainly me and someone else do the network support because we have a silly network admin and overall he handles stuff or likes to think so but in reality i believe it will transfer to my side (me) but i need to know how i can make things better and something we dont have right now is security! I've requested a security document for our network which should be interesting!
