Approximately what percentage of its value does a card lose when it goes from new to 'nearly new'?

I know this is a vague and nebulous question and that the answer will vary significantly depending on specifics, but I've never bought a used GPU before and I'm curious. I tried to research myself but given the poor info provided by most sellers it was actually a bit tricky to figure out the exact models and what they would be worth new.

General comments on the used GPU market are also welcome.

Depends really on how new the card is in both terms of purchase and the generation, if it's current gen then I'd guestimate between 20-40% off, if last gen then likely 40-60%.

Other factors like the model and condition obviously play there part :)

I think it varies a lot and is mainly down to the individual card itself. I bought a used Reference r9 290 for £245 when they were still selling for £310 here and it was about a month old and barely used more than a few hours.I believe the average price fluctuates on many cards as they become harder to find or more useful as we saw with people rushing out and buying up tons of used 7950 and 7970 cards for bit mining. Best advice i can give would be to stay within a budget, buy from a trustworthy seller and don't buy the first thing that comes along at a decent price.

a lot depends on how quick the seller wants to sell and how much a buyer is willing to spend, any item is only worth what people are willing to pay for it, for something like a gtx780 or 290 then i would look to save at least a third of the new price

On eBay, for "nearly new", 0% to -20% "discount", due to bidder ignorance. And watch for people selling used cards as "new" because it's "like new".

On MM, about 15% discount if you're lucky. A lot of people try to sell for like retail price minus something stingy like £10, before saying "final drop before the 'bay". Because of aforementioned eBay idiocy and people paying more for used cards than new.

As stuff gets older MM prices get more reasonable. eBay not so much.

Varies wildly

Vapour x 280x is sitting at £240 on ocuk

I bought 2 for £125 a piece a couple of weeks ago

Sounds like its less of a reduction than I was expecting. I guess with a GPU the value stays relatively high due to it being a component that sits in a box rather than something more personal like a phone - minor cosmetic damage etc doesn't really matter much.

Thanks for the info.

Cant remember what a windforce gtx 780 cost new at release. But I paid £290.00 for my first one late last year, (rev1 card). My second rev2 was £255.00, bought just over a week ago.

Depends on the cards and the time. I know that R9 290s go for less than £200 2nd hand. Yet 780s hold their value a lot more.

As for timing, I got my 780 ref for £280. Now they all seem to go for £300+.
