Is there a particular reason why tyres are so expensive at the moment or just general cost of living..?

2 x Goodyear last year nearly the same as 1x this year..

Manufacturing costs, transportation and gas and electricity costs. Making tyres is hot work, requiring lots of heat. Rubber needs transported to the factories and fuel costs have risen too.

Do look around though, prices can vary considerably and keep an eye on the tyre thread here as people will often post discount codes or offers.

I've only found they're expensive through Black Circles etc

If you're buying them from somewhere like Camskill, they're significantly cheaper.

E.g. 245/35 R18 in PS5 from Black Circles is ~175 fitted. I've seen them as high as 200 fitted.

From Camskill, 140 each plus fitting.

That wasn't my experience finding midrange tyres for the OH, they were the same price everywhere pretty much. ProTyre I think was the cheapest when we got them fitted, but that may very well be tyre-specific (as is what you're finding).

You need to keep an eye out for offers. I had two Goodyear's fitted earlier this year for a decent price. Obviously not cheaper than before but not crazy either. Just keep an eye out on HotUKDeals once a week.

Tell me about it! I paid under £400 for a couple of Michelin Cross Climate 2's a year ago. I could do with another 2 now but I'm looking at £550+ and that's with shopping around....daylight robbery!
