If my car has 165/65/R14
Is it posible to fit 185/65/R14?
Just wondering if this is okay, car wont go mad at me will it :S

Your speedo will be reading low "Speedo reads 70mph your actual speed will be 73.19 mph"

Be better off with a 60 or 55 sidewall.

Rim width is usually in inches and not part of the tyre size. If you fit too wide a tyre for the rim width then the tyre doesn't sit correctly. Generally speaking one size increase in width is usually OK on narrower rims like yours then two might be pushing it. I'm not familiar with the Clio outside of passing my test in one back in the early 90s so can't be more specific.

The handbook should list recommended tyre sizes.

Btw it is a full wheel was just wondering if they would on a clio, its not putting a tyre on the rims. if this is what you mean?

The rim is the edge of the wheel, it's just used as a colloquial term for the wheel in general.

I think those tyres would be too wide and given the sidewall ratio is identical they'd be too tall as well.

It's best to stick to the proper size really - I guess you've been offered a cheap set of tyres by someone?

Why not just try one on a rim and see how they sit and make your judgment from that.
See what the guy who fits the tyre thinks.

I could do and its from a mate, and its a full wheel not just fitting tyres just a wheel change..
I could try them and see how they fit, but i thought it might affect the handling of the car or something..

Considering people fit 17" wheels to cars like that I dont see that much difference in handling,I would try them and if the car feels ok and the tyres are not fouling the arches, get it tracked up and your away.

Well your speedo would need recalibrating for a start as the overall diameter and circumference will be bigger which means your speedo will be under reading by a fairly significant amount.

Yeah i was allready told this and used the tyre calculator linked earlier and it was a considerable ammount
So ill probably just go for a full new set from kwik fit or something :D
Better be safe than sorry ;)

Well ive just looked up my actually car tyres sizes, the manufactures size
and they read to be a 165/70/R13" tyre, and i have 165/65/R14", is this a problem then? lol

Well the number in the middle is actually the profile of the tyre! the 14s are 65 and the 13s are 70 which is a higher profile so they may actually workout about the same diameter but thats somthing youd have to check I dont know.

Profile doesn't really mean anything on its own though. I don't know why this sizing convention is used over the much simpler one used for slick tyres where you get width(mm)/outer diameter(mm)/rim diameter(in).

Anyway, just use the miata.net calculator that is linked above to work out the difference in outer diameter.
