Tyres for 02 Focus

Unless he's a bit of a boy racer or happens to take the Focus on track days just get the cheapest branded tyres you can find?

This just shows how much you do not know about cars.

Sure cheap tyres won't be as good in the wet and not gonna stop you quite as fast, but if he's your average run of the mile 'Dad' he's not gonna be stupid speeds in the wet and need F1 tyres.

I'm only going on what I read in a previous 'Spec my Foci some tyres' thread where the general idea was that as long as you didn't get some cheap chinese no brand rubber and just went for a better well known brands budget tyre your average driver in his or her Focus is gonna be fine.

If he needs new tyres then chances are his are pretty close to the limit, so whatever he buys is going to be an improvement over what he's use to driving with now.

You can drive as carefully as you want but they'll always be one time where you need to brake heavily or swerve to avoid something.

Firestone Firehawks would have been originally fitted to the car and they seem good value and they last well.

I would imagine they are 195\65\15 you could get toyo proxes t1-r, vredestein sportrac 3, continental premium contacts, all between £50-£60 i would imagine

This is why Peerzy is misguided. It's not about being able to drive faster. It's all about not hitting the car/person in front during a (potential) RTC

WHats OEM on this year model?

I had 55's on my Focus (99 1.8 Z) but upped to a 60 as they were a fair bit cheaper at the time. Goodyear excellence dont feel as tight as the P6000's (dunno if its a sidewall or profile making the most difference there) but wet grip is far better. Seems the Focus can be quite sensitive to tyre selection so Id be reluctant to venture too far from the OEM stuff.

Contisports sound a good choice, should last significantly longer that T1R's so try to avoid comparing the prices directly.

Continental Premium Contacts I believe and EcoContacts on low spec models, however, in shortages, especially with the ST, Goodyear and Pirelli's have been used from the factory instead of Sport Contacts.

The OEM would be the Firehawks. Continentals are the OEM for the MK2.

He said for this year's model, so I assumed, 'this' year.

Mk1's come with Continentals also.

edit - it also depends on where your Focus was built for which tires it has as new.

Sorry to hijack the thread but anyone have any experiences with Goodyear GT2 or Firestone Multihawk, thinking of either the two but can't decide.

Noooooooooooooooooo

For the price, they are awful. £70 price tag for the performance of a £20 tyre. Had them on my Escort and they were horrid in the wet.
They seem fine to me, car is very stable in all conditions. I bought the car a year ago with them on it and would happily buy them again.
