OK,
I have driven my car on a mix of nankangs and ambassadors
I have driven another MX-5 with Pirrelli P6000's (i think...)
I have driven another MX-5 with larger 15" which I cant remember the name of the tyre....
And by driven, I mean on road and track, except the nankangs and ambaassadors
And the Michelins are better than all of those..........
Im not saying that they would be anywhere near R888's or T1Rs or anthing, but who wants R888s on an everyday car?
I've driven an MX-5 on a mixture of dodgy tyres, driven one on Goodyear Hydragrips, one on a set of hard compund Firestone fuel savers (that's what they were actually called1)and recently have been driving around in one on T1R's - the difference is staggering I must say. The T1R's embarrass everything else in the dry, i find it tough to get the back end out most of the time. In the wet, they are retty much as good as the hydras. The mixture was trouser filling and the fuel savers were little better, offering nowhere near the grip and certainty of the premium brands.
Bin the fuel saver rubbish - they might save you £20 - £50 a year in fuel, but a new bumper costs significantly more than that...
