I'm after a new IPS monitor for photography and seeing as the Hazro monitors are so disappointing and hazro's response is worryingly poor I'm in the market again.

Got my eye on the U2311 as I could effectively buy 2 for almost the same price as the Hazro I had my eye on, however I think I read somewhere that it uses a 6 bit panel, is this really the case?

If the U2311 does infact use a 6 bit screen, what is the likelihood of getting a U2410 for £400inc from Dell small and medium business?

I think it uses an 8bit panel. - I stand corrected, you lean something new... :)

As far as the U2410 goes I've seen it for less than £400 at times yes.

According to this the U2311H does indeed use a 6 bit panel and uses a FRC to achieve 16.7 million colours like a true 8 bit panel. Though it must be said that the FRC must have been implemented very well as the image quality and colour accuracy is still very good.

As for the U2410, I'm not sure about pricing for business - but I would keep an eye out for any dell discounts (like the ones you can get on the U2311H).

As I suspected, that's disappointing really but probably explains the cost.

Dell Business is about £460, however I've read that a lot of people manage to successfully haggle down, I just wonder if anyone here has any experience of such haggling.

I sure do. What you do is acquire a monitor for review from Dell (in this case the U2410) and then tell them how much more positive the review will be if they can offer you a good deal on a U2410. :p

Don't worry about the 6-bit nature of the panel - I have 2 in work and they are excellent once calibrated (out of the box they're pretty spanking also).

It depends on what you want to do with the monitors though - if you do photography, printing or anything that requires an extended colour space then this monitor is NOT for you. If you're doing video (up to 1080p HD), graphics for screen use or other on-screen activities (gaming, etc) then you really can't beat this thing for the price.

That's the issue, photography is the only reason I'm looking to upgrade monitors right now. I have an Acer which is in my opinion excellent if only a TN so I'd require something that's a big step up to make me want to part with this.

you're looking at 10-bit panels then in the £400+ price range.

Sucks I know because I wanted a pair of U2410s, but for what I do I'm good with the U2311Hs

Photoshop is still 8bit as are 99% of programs, investing in a 10bit will future proof I admit but I by the time I can see the benefit of a 10bit screen I imagine I'll want to upgrade to a nice shiny OLED screen anyway ;)
