Ubuntu and format ext3

I have no experience with linux at all. All i want to do is format a hdd to ext3 to use later in a nmt. So i am running Ubuntu 8 from a lice cd. Anyone care to give me idiot proof instructions on what to do once its booted. Only connections on the pc is the cd drive and the hdd i want to format.

Get to the desktop. Click System -> Administration -> Partition Editor

And use that to format the disk. It's pretty self-explanatory.
