Ubuntu Boot Order

I have recently installed uBuntu onto my laptop, where I also have Vista & Windows 7.

I can change the boot order for the Windows OSes - within Windows, but it doesn't list Ubuntu as an option - and Ubuntu is always the first one to boot (it was the last to be installed).

Aside from the boot option screen when it initially launches, can I change the order so it permanently uses Vista as the primary OS?

Hi

Sorry for the hijack. But a triple boot I setup with Ubuntu, Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista seemed to require me to use the Vista bootloader. Trying to boot into Vista from the Ubuntu Grub loader (MBR) - using the standard chain loader option - didn't seem to work (but did for the Windows XP x64 standard ntldr). Would have prefered to used Grub of course!!

Anyone else comment on getting the Grub loader to play ball with Windows 7 / Vista? I thought the crap they install in the MBR was essential to the OS booting??!!

Thanks for the response guys.

I changed the grub load process (change default to 4 as suggested) this then loads to the windows option for loading specific Oses.

In summary it changes the boot sequence to load from a Windows OS (Longhorn in my case) and then specifically from Vista. You still need to set the Windows OS option from the boot.ini file in Windows as well as the Linux menu.lst file

I boot Vista with Grub.

I've quad booted Win2k, Vista, Win7, Debian with Grub.

What happens when you try to boot? How did you install the Windows? Post your menu.lst and fdisk -l output.

Ah thanks for the heads up!! I am currently using the Vista loader. Bit late to help me I'm afraid as I installed Grub on the Linux-Mint partition and used an Easybcd Grub stage 1 loader to run Mint from the Vista boot menu. This works OK but I would rather have Grub on the MBR obviously!! :D

Thanks for the offer of help!!

For future reference will the chainloader in Grub (MBR) boot into Vista/ Windows 7 if it points to the right partition (like with Windows XP)? Or do I have to do something else fancy??
