i had it running with ati drivers nicely then I unchecked use ati drivers in restricted drivers section ( to see what it done, ! doh) now I cant get my Xserver to start it complains about no fglrx driver.

fixes please!

Good on the experimentation :)

But try a:

Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg -phigh

That will let you choose the mesa graphics driver and get a basic display back. You'll then be able to re-do the restricted driver. Hopefully.

Not in a position to advise on the ATi setup in detail, I'm an nvidia fanboy :p

thx :) big help.

I had berly+xgl working great under edgy but now I just get scrambled display when I try to use it. Have done fresh install to no avail. Any ideas?

ati+berly+xgl. = garbled screen .

Is it garbled all the time, or only when you turn on Beryl? I didn't realise getting Beryl working on ATi took so much effort! If you've had it working but now it's not, the best place to try is probably the Ubuntu forums :)

just with berly, oh well I have read its the latest version of berly thats bust it, I'll wait until update.

There's normally a fix out within a few days if they find a major bug and acknowledge it in public :)

Is it just on ATi or nvidia too? (Do I avoid the latest updates?) :p

You can DOWNGRADE the version of Beryl to one that works with ATI cards and XGL mind if you dont want to wait?
