Ubuntu install problem

right, i put the cd in, boot from it into the live cd, go through the install process, reboot as it asks but when it boots back into the linux hdd it says the problem loading the OS

thats all it says, not even click to reboot

im pretty sure iv just missed something obvious but i cant figure out what. so, any ideas?

Ah, that might be it. It wrote the Grub bootloader to the MBR which is probably on the same drive as Windows. Set it to boot from that and see if you can get to Grub's menu where it asks you if yoyu want to boot Linux or Windows.
 
right, i formated and started afresh...downloaded Kubuntu, installed.

booting from the drive i installed on did nothing, this drives is the slave on the ide channel by the way

then tried booting from the master drive (which is not my windows drive)

its said

loading grub 1.5, please wait....

i assume thats in the linux install. if so, how do i get to it when i can boot in?

do i have to boot from cd, in which case it will surely be the standard
 
You should be able to boot from the CD. Find where your hard disk is mounted and find the menu for the bootloader.

Perhaps something doesn't find your hardware agreeable. Can you list your hard disk, motherboard/IDE controller setup?
