UBUNTU: Installing onto Laptop

Just a quick warning if you are going to resize an NTFS partition with GParted - I did so yesterday to make room for Ubuntu on its own partition and, it worked - ish - when I tried booting Vista from the NTFS partition it reported a missing file. I had to recover this using the Vista install disc in repair mode - this took about 2 minutes so it was hardly a problem for me, but just a warning to make sure you have a Vista/XP etc. disc handy in case this wasn't an isolated case and happens to you.

Thanks,

I tried Wubi, it worked well, apart from when I went to re-boot it went wrong, OS froze etc, so I will partition :)

I how have 99gb free on my main PC, so will install to that aswell (partition etc) :D

What file was it?

Ubuntu resized mine with no problems if it's any consolation, but it was XP.

Ubuntu won't work on my main rig :(, all the graphics are corrupted, tried 7.10, 8.04 32 and 64 bit etc, no idea what's wrong with it :(

Tried Live CD, Wubi and a proper install :(
